ABOUT THE FOUNDERS

"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."

Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Weldon and Tanya Jenkins are the Founders of Home Away Transitional Services also known as HATS, Inc. Tanya is the youngest of eight children and all of them (except her and one brother) served in the United States Armed Forces.  Weldon is a disabled veteran who served in the United States Navy.  Therefore, there has always been a strong desire to stay connected to veterans.  When they kept having problems with tenants who did not pay or who vandalized their rental property, they decided to stop being landlords and give back to the community by developing a non-profit organization that would cater to women veterans because they are neglected in a major way.  Tanya is a native of Norfolk, VA where she attended Old Dominion University and majored in Human Resources Management with an emphasis in Training and Development.  Her parents moved to Portsmouth, VA when she was 12 years old.  Therefore, she is a 1991 graduate of the elite I.C. Norcom High School.  Weldon is a native of Tarboro, NC and has well over 25 years in the relocation industry.  Weldon takes great pride in his project management role at Suddath, Inc. and has always been a leader amongst his peers.  Weldon and Tanya  have been married for 10 years and have two daughters and three grandchildren.
